Rainbow Haven is a programme of The East Manchester Community Association (TEMCA). 

 We have an active Board of Trustees who are support the work of Rainbow Haven.

Caroline Glendenning: Chair

Caroline joined The East Manchester Community Association (Rainbow Haven) board in 2019. She
brings huge experience and expertise, having led large university teams and research programmes in health and social care. She also has extensive knowledge of the charity sector, having served as
Trustee/Chair for several charities, both local, national and international, including the Social Policy
Association and UK Thalidomide Trust. She has also been an active volunteer with Manchester
based refugee charities for many years.


Cath Maffia: Vice Chair

Cath has been a Trustee since 2013, initially as Co-Chair and more recently as Vice Chair. She has
extensive experience in health, and in 2000 became a specialist health visitor for refugees and
asylum seekers. She took early retirement from this role and took up a post with Refugee Action.
Cath then set up the charity TS4SE Cooperative, which works to bridge the gap between refugees
and asylum seekers and the organisations providing services to support them, with the aim of
improving health provision.


John Tyrell: Treasurer

John has been a valued supporter of Rainbow Haven since 2015, first as a volunteer and, since 2017
a Trustee. John is a retired university lecturer, with expertise on political history and computing. His
varied career includes time in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and 20 yrs lecturing all over
the world. He is a keen gardener and blogger, and is a member of the Friends of St Helena, making
occasional visits to St Helena and giving talks on St Helena and Napoleon.


Colin Taylor

Colin is one of the founding members of The East Manchester Community Association since it’s
inception in 2003. He is a member of St Pauls with St John’s United Reformed Church, which
provides the premises for Rainbow Haven and provides invaluable ongoing support. He has recently retired as Honorary Treasurer.


Jeremie Diatapakola

Jeremie is a Pastor and activist, passionate about bringing change to people’s lives, a passion he
brings to Rainbow Haven as a member of the board. He has worked with many organizations
supporting asylum seekers and refugees in the UK and is currently a volunteer with Freedom From Torture.


Kennedy Affriye

Kennedy joined the TEMCA Board in 2018. Kennedy brings experience of both health and the justice system. Previously, in London, he acted as secretary to his local GP Patient Forum and was Vice Chair of Seven Sisters Ward Police Panel. He met regularly with the Police and played a major role in helping to restore law and order following the Tottenham riots in 2011.


Justine Mutombo

Justine joined the TEMCA Board in 2020. She has experience in the health sector and is a qualified
doctor, with experience of working in acute and community hospitals in a number of countries.
Justine has a master’s degree in Global Healthcare Management. Currently she works in the Human Resources department of a local hospital.


Hazel Batchelor

Hazel joined the TEMCA board in 2022. This is her first experience of being a trustee, but she brings invaluable professional experience in social work, counselling and knowledge of the sector. She worked at a local hospice for 15 years and also as a therapist for Freedom From Torture. Her priority is making a difference to the lives of others, particularly those who are marginalised.


Anna Bennett

Anna joined the board of trustees in 2022 having spent over thirty years working as an
accountant/auditor and advisor in the not-for-profit sector.
